Severe weather for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024

TORNADO ALLEY

Tornadoes, finally in the sky. Driven by the wind, felt in the cockpit.

Features

Not just a visual.
A storm you fly in.

  1. 01

    Storm weather included

Eight weather presets, one for each tornado type plus CHAOS MODE, with heavy cloud cover, the storm's wind and light rain where it belongs. Set automatically when you spawn a tornado, or keep your own weather.

  2. 02

    Real paths, real speed

Historic tornadoes touch down where they did, follow their real NOAA/SPC paths at their real speed and dissipate where they lifted. Your own tornadoes walk with the wind you set.

  3. 03

    6 types, EF0 to EF5

Six tornado shapes, from a thin rope and a stovepipe to the 20,000 ft Giant, plus 17 historic US tornadoes from Natchez 1840 to Greenfield 2024. The EF level sets how hard it pulls, spins and throws your aircraft.

  4. 04

    Missions and CHAOS MODE

Start on a runway near a historic tornado with a flight plan to it, beat the countdown and catch it before it dissipates. Or start CHAOS MODE and giant tornadoes keep forming in your path.

  5. 05

    Felt in the cockpit

Fly too close and it pulls you in, spins you round the funnel, lifts you up and throws you out, with severe turbulence all the way.

  6. 06

    Terrain-aware effects

The base changes with the ground below: dust and debris, leaves, spray over water, snow when the air is below freezing.

  7. 07

    Built for frame rate

Three levels of detail and adjustable dust and debris, from none to high, so you can trade particles for frames on any PC.

Try it

Take control of the storm.

The mod’s own tornadoes and physics, in your browser. Pick a type, turn the wind, then send an aircraft too close.

More to fly into.
In the works.

The biggest tornadoes

The widest wedges, like El Reno 2013, come back as their own giant models, bigger than anything in the mod today.

Tsunami

A wall of water rolling in from the open sea and breaking over the coast, seen from the cockpit.

Erupting volcano

Lava, glowing ash and a towering plume to fly around. Keep your distance.

Planned for future versions; not part of the current release. Plans may change.

FAQ

Questions.

Which simulators are supported?

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on Windows PC (Microsoft Store or Steam). Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and Xbox are not supported.

Do I need live weather turned on?

No. Each tornado comes with its own storm weather, set automatically when you spawn it. Turn Auto weather off in the menu to keep your own.

Will it hurt my frame rate?

The tornado uses three levels of detail, and its dust and debris can be set from none to high in the menu to fit your PC.

What are presets?

Ready-made tornadoes: 17 historic US tornadoes that touch down where they did and follow their real paths, plus one of each tornado type. Spawn one in front of you, go to where it touched down, or fly a mission to catch it.

Why does it need a program on my PC?

Add-ons cannot create and move tornadoes from inside the simulator alone, so a small companion program runs on your PC next to it. That is also why Xbox is not supported. It only talks to the simulator on your own computer.

How do I install and update?

Your licence and downloads are in your account. The package goes in your Community folder together with the companion program; new versions appear in your account and are announced by e-mail.
